This was Portugal's second appearance in the UNL finals.
They became the first UNL record-holder by beating the incumbent Nations League AND European Champions Spain!
This marked Portugal's first competitive victory against the Spaniards since the Euro 2004 group stage; it also somewhat avenged their Euro 2012 semi-final loss (on penalties) to them! Amazingly, at that time Spain were the incumbent Euro and World Champions!
This was the eigth tournament clash between Portugal and Spain, and only the second time Portugal won!
With a third successful international tournament under their belt, Portugal have: * won a trophy in regular time (UNL2019); * won a trophy in extra time (Euro 2016); * won a trophy after penalties (UNL2025). Indomitable.
